What We Collect

TrailWeights collects the minimum data needed to run the platform. When you create an account we store your email address and display name. When you build packs or submit gear weights we store that content linked to your account. We collect anonymous page-view analytics to improve the site.

How We Use Your Data

Your data powers your personal experience — pack lists, wishlists, gear comparisons, and trip planning. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not run ads. Aggregate, non-identifying data (like average pack weights by trail) may be used in public content.

YouTube API Data

TrailWeights uses YouTube API Services to surface creator gear reviews on product pages. We search for publicly available videos, retrieve video metadata (title, view count, publish date), and display channel information (channel name, channel avatar, handle). We do not display YouTube-sourced subscriber counts, rankings, or other derived aggregate metrics on public surfaces. We do not access any user's private YouTube data. We do not download, host, or redistribute YouTube video content — all video links point directly to youtube.com. YouTube API Data we retrieve is refreshed or removed within 30 calendar days in accordance with the YouTube API Services Terms of Service (III.E.4.c & III.E.4.d).

AI & Machine Learning

TrailWeights does not train, fine-tune, or evaluate any machine-learning model using YouTube API Data, YouTube audiovisual content, or any YouTube-sourced content. Our classification and recommendation systems use third-party large-language-model APIs at inference time only, operating over creator transcripts where captions are publicly available. We do not store video frames, audio, or derivative representations suitable for model training, and we do not export YouTube-sourced data to AI training services.

In addition to this Privacy Policy, your use of YouTube-powered features on TrailWeights is governed by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. You may revoke TrailWeights's access to your YouTube data at any time through the Google security settings.

Third-Party Content & Advertising

When you watch an embedded YouTube video on TrailWeights, the video player is served directly by YouTube (a Google service), not by TrailWeights. YouTube may display advertisements, set cookies, and collect usage data within its embedded player according to Google's own policies. TrailWeights does not control what YouTube displays, what ads run before or during videos, or what data YouTube collects through its player. By interacting with embedded YouTube content on TrailWeights, you consent to YouTube's collection and use of that data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. TrailWeights does not serve its own advertising and does not share your personal information with advertisers.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising pixels.

Data Storage & Security

Data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) with row-level security enabled. All traffic is encrypted via HTTPS. We do not store payment information — any future transactions will be handled by a PCI-compliant payment processor.

Your Rights

You can export or delete your account data at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Changes

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users.
